Gemstone Energy: Smoky Quartz

Smoky Quartz is a silicone dioxide crystal with a transparency that ranges from completely clear to opaque. Smoky Quartz has a vitreous luster and a hexagonal crystal system. Smoky Quartz means detox and balance.

Smoky Quartz has also gone by Morion, the original term which the Druids gave to this beautiful crystal. Morion is said to have multiple origins, including the Greek word morion, meaning “baneful” or “hideous,” as well as the old French word moreau meaning “black.” Smoky Quartz best works in darkness to process negative energies and create new positive change.

  • Bodily Effect: Smoky Quartz can absorb electromagnetic (EMF) smog blocking geopathic stress. It can sooth the nerves and calm fears settling rampant thoughts that lead to anxiety and as a result are helpful in soothing tension headaches.
  • Emotional Effect: As a natural detox, Smoky Quartz can clear out old patterns of feelings of toxicity and heal with positive frequencies allowing for a reconnection to the physical and the spiritual realms.
  • Spiritual Effect: Smoky quartz elevates lower energies to higher vibrational energies resulting in a divine connection with the Earth element. Smokey Quartz releases stagnant energy and increases Qi energy glow revitalizing the spirit to awaken and renew.
Smoky Quartz' silver smoke-like color comes from the natural irradiation of quartz silicon dioxide made up of mud, clay, soil and ash.
Smoky Quartz is the national gemstone of Scotland dating back to its Celtic Druid legend and lore. Smoky quartz is universally prevalent across histories, cultures and societies, both ancient and modern. Currently, the smoky crystal comes from Australia, Brazil, the United States, and Madagascar.

"A grounding stone, Smoky Quartz helps us to let go of fear and elevates us out of negativity through the power of positive thoughts and actions."
