Native to the Middle East and in cold northern climates such as Norway and Russia. Angelica is sometimes is called the Holy Ghost Plant because of its presumed heavenly origin, mystical and healing powers. Its holy name was because of its seeming ability to cure anything. It was considered to be a great defense against evil spirits, witches, spells and the plague.

The stems of Angelica Root are stout fluted, hollow and growth 4 to 6 feet high. The foliage grows on hollow footstalks often 3 feet in length the flowers are small and numerous in yellowish or greenish in color. They blossom in July and are succeeded by pale yellow, oblong fruits when ripe and very aromatic.

Angelica Root imparts an earthy, woody, herbaceous flavor.
